Visit From Oma

Ada's Grandmother visited today to watch Ada while I ran some errands. They spent a long time talking about bunnies. Also, they discussed various bodily functions. It's important that Ada not feel embarrassed about her loud farting. She hasn't expressed her embarrassment in so many words but sometimes it's written all over her face:

"Yoicks! Where'd that come from? Oma? It sure wasn't me!"

You Lookin' At Me?

Ada's reflux is making her a little irritable today. She hasn't been crying all that much but she's been looking kinda' pissed off for most of the morning. I'm sure that she'd be very offended to know how cute we think she is when she looks pissed off . It's no fun being a baby... you get no respect!

In this picture I think she looks kinda' like C. Thomas Howell in The Outsiders (except more pink) -- she's pretty darn tough... Grrr! "You know the rules -- no jazz before the rumble!"

And here she's like , "What's wrong with these people? Can they NOT just leave me alone? "
I know there's a lot of pink going on in these pictures but I promise -- she didn't have any pink on at all yesterday. Really!

The Great Outdoors

Ada likes being outside. She gets all dreamy and mellow -- see the evidence below:
She also likes hanging out with her Uncle Mic...
Sigh... so lovely.

Slightly Higher Quality

I finally got my regular camera organized (missing battery, missing card reader, etc) and found these old pics on it that I thought I'd share. They're a few weeks old but they're both super-schweet and of a slightly higher quality than the rest on this site. I might just shake it up and start taking a few more pics with the nicer camera -- mostly because I can actually get photos with it without having to move the baby or hold her in weird positions. Click on the photos to see bigger versions...

(yes, it's another nudie pic of the baby... have I no shame?)

Gimme Some Sugar, Daddy

Thor's magical new burping technique makes everyone happy. Ada gets to survey her domain and when she vomits (inevitably), it's propelled outward, and ideally into the bib, rather than on to one's chest. Better all around. She's getting closer to surgery but is seeming to be in fairly good spirits none-the-less. She is so good-natured that even though she's pretty uncomfortable, she doesn't really cry much, and when she does it's usually pretty easy to figure out what's up and fix it.

You Are Getting Very Sleepy

Ada has a hypnotic effect on me. Sometimes I just can't keep my eyes open any longer. Mic caught me taking a cat nap, while Ada politely gazed skyward, as though embarrassed by my snoring but not wanting to disturb.

Of course the nap recorded here probably only lasted about 10 minutes -- Ada does seem to be most fussy when I'm the most tired. Why is that?

Where's the Baby?

Can you spot her in this sea of magenta? I've almost lost her a few times today! It's baby camouflage!
She has a sort of funny expression here but just look at those feets -- silly cute. For those of you keeping track, Ada is somewhere north of 9 lbs at this point. We're all very proud of her. Way to eat, baby!

With Uncle Mic here, Ada's had a lot of excitement -- there's been dancing, bouncing, hospitalization, cooking, and a lot of hanging around looking angelic. She does the latter extremely well.

And Another Thing...

I couldn't resist adding this photo, just cause she looks so damn cute here, wearing her lovely new romper with little bugs on it. Rather than perpetuate my squeamishness about bugs, I'm trying to ensure that she thinks they're cute and cuddly. It will help her in later years, I have no doubt.

Ada and I are still working out the kinks in this whole uncle/niece relationship. Every time I give her a kiss she gives me one on the kisser. She is looking great. She already has her mother's "what the hell" look. Very strange to see HK staring out of Ada's eyes. So far they have not allowed me the pleasure of diaper duty, but I have gotten to medicate the cat. Me-oww!

Sleepy, sleepy baby

Ada has been spending a lot of time asleep these days. She hasn't been feeling super hot and, like the angelic little muffin that she is, she doesn't complain much -- she just sleeps, and looks slightly uncomfortable.

A Tiny Pink Prison

I realize that I haven't actually done a whole lot of reporting on Ada's attire, mostly because it's actually been fairly boring. I personally think she's most comfortable in her plain white onesies and so I mostly leave her in those. Apologies to those of you desperate to see her in petticoats. None-the-less, I do think her new pink-striped onesie is particularly fetching -- kind of like a prison uniform for a very, very minimal security prison that encourages inmates to learn embroidery and macrame.

Ada does look slightly drugged in this picture -- guess why? She is slightly drugged...

Despite her fairly intense expression here, I'm thrilled to report that she's actually started smiling -- at me, at her dad, at stuffed creatures and most of all to herself. It's very cool.

(oh look! tummy time!)

Sleeping It Off

Who knew vaccinations could be so traumatic? Ada's had a rough few days -- far too many needles, including a blood draw from a woman clearly trained to draw blood from heroin addicts and large farm animals. Babies, not so much. She's been feverish and vomity and miserable. And guess what? If she's miserable, we're miserable. She's feeling better now but still incredibly sleepy. This is her reaction to the magical, fun activity mat...zzzzzzzzzzzzz

We Are Not Amused

"What's that you say? We're going for vaccinations? Why, Mommy, why?

I just don't understand --- how could you hurt me this way? There's really only one solution...

Run away! Run away!"

(Note: Ada did have her vaccinations -- she found she was unable to run away after all. Ha! Ha! They were not fun but she handled them as well as could be expected and now plans to sleep for the next 3 days. Pooh on needles!)

Things Ada Will Hate Me For Later

I know she'll hate me later but how can I resist? So ridonkulously cute...

And, because I realize you may be wondering what she looks like from the other side:
(Sorry, Ada!)

Viva la Revolution!

"My fellow babies! We have gotten away with being cute and cuddly for far too long! We have become complacent and have forgotten our duty. We can still smile and pretend to be fascinated by their silly high contrast books...

But we must never forget...

...that we are here to RULE THE WORLD!!!"

Space Alien Mommy

Adaaaa! Adaaaa! I have come from outer space to take your picture...

Noooo! Put me down! I will not be assimilated!

Waaah..mmm... you don't smell so bad... maybe I can assimilate a little bit...

Snorfle... I'll assimilate myself right to sleep. Take all the pictures you want.. I cannot resist you...

(Note: For those of you who think I must be losing my mind here at home with the baby, I assure you... I was always this crazy. I do want to point out that all these pics are taken with my computer camera so even if you think I'm insane you should still stand in awe of my mad skillz. Respect!)

Upchuck

These days we expend a huge amount of effort trying to keep Ada from throwing up her food. First, we feed her as she reclines in this pillow-like thing:

Then we take a break and burp:

And then we start again.. "um, hellooo, where's mah milk? Don't make me tell you twice!"

Despite all the acrobatics we do end up with quite few incidents. Oh well... Ada is still gaining weight nonetheless -- 8lbs 1oz as of yesterday!

Addendum

Ada was sleeping so beautifully that I just couldn't resist sticking my computer in her face... sigh... has there ever been a more bee-you-tee-ful babeh?

And I know you just can't get enough so here she is again... still sleeping:

It's way too hot for clothes today... and besides, I want to show off my lovely round belly...

so sad for all you grown-up people who have to wear clothes all the time!
and because we like responding to requests from our adoring public, a picture of Ada in a hat, as requested:

Whee! Look at me -- I'm going in the car today! Don't I look thrilled?

August 3rd, 2007

Ahh, let me recline in my lovely gigantic beanbag. Perhaps my people will deliver food and cuddling right here. If they don't perhaps I'll throw up on them.

August 2nd, 2007

Calm, alert, pensive... what a mellow baby, and so patient...
oh wait, perhaps not:

August 1st, 2007

Oh look! It's Ada Squishy-Face Fauxhawk Bobble-head. She makes this face a lot - what do you think it means?

July 30, 2007

Absolute, incontrovertible evidence of Naked Baby Time... Ada likes being naked, and who can blame her?

July 29, 2007

Ada doesn't seem to be too thrilled about taking photos. She has become bored... or maybe she started out bored (see picture in previous post)

July 29, 2007

Ada and I were playing around with my computer and decided to use the camera to take some snapshots to record just how much fun we were having -- whee... doesn't Ada look like she's having a great time?
