There's a New Sheriff in Town

Tumbleweeds, six-shooters, dusty boots... it's a shoot-out at the playgroup corral and Sherrif Ada is the only one who can set the town straight:

"what you looking at, punk?"

"those wings look at little suspicious. I might have to confiscate them"

"I'm the law. If want those wings, I get those wings. What are you going to do about?"

(Ada did steal her friend Clare's costume, although Clare didn't seem to perturbed by it. The adorable tiger is Iris.)

St. Thomas

Thanks to an overabundance of luxury vacations available to a friend of my friend Tamara,  Ada and I were invited to join Tamara and her daughter, Sophie, in St. Thomas for a few days. Gorgeous, sunny, iguana-filled, beachy-fabulousness:

This is Ada on her way to Ingo Flamingo, the imaginary place she made up where Cinderella lives. Sometimes Ingo Flamingo is a person too, so maybe she just likes saying the words...

The gorgeous view from our balcony at dawn... why so early, you ask?

Umm, Ada, do you have any thoughts on why we might have been up so early?

The crazy aquarium we visited, where a scuba diver fed a swarm of hungry fish. Ada was not so excited about this one. She promptly ran away.

More Princess-ness

Auntie Kirin gave Ada this crown for her birthday. It was completely ignored until recently, when the princess phenomenon started to take hold. She's not wearing it ALL the time but enough to be troubling. Luckily she won't be wearing it for halloween. I think she's going to be a space cowgirl instead. Hmm.. just need to track down some space cows....

Starting to read?

Ada loves books -- shocking! -- and has started to "read" to herself, which involves looking at the pictures and reciting stories she's memorized. Here she's telling herself about the story of Cinderella -- for some reason, a source of ENDLESS fascination. Why are girls obsessed with princesses? I certainly don't read the stories to her, at least not more than any other stories... and when I do, I try to convince her that it would be better to be the witch - at least she'd have some magical powers and could smite people instead of dealing with all the abuse that princesses tend to get before the prince swoops in and saves them.

Fall in NY

Ada and her friend Claire went hiking at Sam's Point Nature Preserve this weekend. For some reason there were still blueberries on the bushes, even though they were already starting to turn colors. Such a gorgeous (and tasty!)  hike!

And there's more!

More from the trip... we carried the girls in these big backpacks, that just happened to match. AND their hats matched and one day, Kirin and I were wearing the same pants (well, different instances of the same pant, and not the same actual pair -- that would have made hiking difficult). We confused people. Wait, are those twins? Wait, no.

Hey there,
So it's been busy! Ugh. I've finally found a moment to upload a few photos from the last few months that really should be shared, most from our trip to Tuolomne.

I like this photo -- pensive. She's definitely a bit of a daydreamer.

Ada and Nola and their daily yoga routine. I think Ada's really perfected that downward dog, don't you?

Utterly gorgeous photos of Kirin and Nola.

Nola looks a little worried here but still it's a sweet moment...

This is just in our neighborhood, taken back in April or so. I've been meaning to put it up for a while. Tiny person, big bridge.

Singing in the Rain

I realize that my posting output has been quite lacking recently but I thought I couldn't get away with not posting this recent photo -- placid now, because she's been given the umbrella to hold, or as she says, "Mommy, I wanna put on my blue umbrella, please mommy."

Puerto Rico

Fun had by all at the beach, and communing with the fountains with Iris... I had a terrible time getting pictures of Ada at the beach -- she literally never slowed down! As you can see, she was well covered. Man, that sun was brutal! SPF 70 wasn't enough to prevent burns after an hour or so. It was so wonderful to get to spend some concentrated time with Ada. I've been working way too much! I miss her!

More! More!

A few moments of repose ... It's been a while since I've updated you all on anything. Ada is conversing in pretty full sentences these days, jabbering to everyone about everything. She's also the most active toddler I've met so far. She really just doesn't want to sit down. Always on the run! These are a few rare moments when she stopped and posed for the camera...

Nothing really to say about my multi-month absence! Here are some sweet moments from the end of winter. Ada in the snow, and Ada dressed as Rainbow Brite... does a blog post get any better? No? I didn't think so!

Office Space

As you can see, Ada's new job requires a little adjustment. Her new cube-mate takes up a lot of space but at least he doesn't hum under his breath or chatter incessantly. And he is a bit more cuddly than the typical colleague.

You'll note that her wardrobe is still a bit in flux -- Thor thought this little leopard print outfit was sort of rock n' roll. Unfortunately, it might be more Boca Raton cougar (Mrowr!) than Def Leppard!

Business Casual?

Now that Ada's heading out to work, she really needs to establish a more professional style. Also, she's a little short so she thought some high heels would help her project an air of gravitas. What do you think?

Hard at Work

What with the global financial meltdown and all, we thought it would be a good idea to get Ada some job training. As you can see, she's perfected the "look really busy" skill, as well as the exasperated, "what now!?" expression. She's on her way to the top!
